Lived here (twice!) for 10 years—great building!
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is in an incredible location and many residents have lived here for a long time. It's relatively no frills in terms of fancy lobby, etc., but it was designed by the heralded firm of Schwartz & Gross back in the day (who designed many of the buildings on West End) and thus the building has great layouts for one bedrooms and studios. Livable space, good closet space, and sensible floorplans. Laundry is in the building. The best thing about the building is the super, who is wonderful, responsive, and kind. Don't let the other review sway you; some folks in the building are extremely demanding and rude and view the super's job to be catering to their every whim and desire, and the super puts up with it with more grace than I would! The laundry room in the building is convenient and has ample machines.
Cons:
Some neighbors are cranky, but that's the Upper West Side! The only other con is that the sidewalk scene at bar across the street can get rowdy late at night in the summer. I lived on the front of the building and could hear it, but to be honest, that comes with city living and I didn't lose much sleep over it.
