Never got an oven for 13 months
Former Tenant
Pros:
The neighbors were nice, although by the end we had all left the building. Maybe that was the plan all along.
Cons:
Never had an oven for the entire 13 months I was there. There wasn’t anyone living in my apartment for over 6 months, so for safety reasons ConEd turns off the gas. You need the landlord to come in with a plumber and verify the gas lines are good, send a verified letter to ConEd, and then they will turn your gas back on. I asked the landlord every week I lived there and he lied and said the plumber had sent a letter. I called ConEd and they said that never happened. Finally the landlord just stopped responding and I had to get lawyers involved. It was an utter nightmare and I never was able to cook for the entire pandemic. At one point the heat got turned off in the winter. We were freezing. The landlord finally bothered to get the part needed after three days. Absolute nightmare. I then fought for three months to get my security deposit back. Mark Massey simply didn’t answer. I had HIS broker hound him and got a lawyer.
Advice to owner:
Don’t live here. Period. Or have a really good lawyer. If you don’t here from the building manager (slash owner? He cut me a check off his computer, after three months, for my security deposit) Mark Massey, he isn’t busy, he didn’t miss it, he IS ignoring you so he won’t have to do it.
