Flubbed and shady move-in
Former Tenant
Pros:
Decent kitchen appliances In-unit washer/dryer
Cons:
- If it were just about the apartment, there would be few cons. However Abraham Djebiyan, the owner, and Matthew Mauro, the broker, are dishonest with their tenants. AVOID! We signed a lease on an apartment, and the first red flag was that Matthew reached out to tell us the lease had a mistake, and that the owners’ address on the lease was different from the one we were to send our rent checks to. Completely different addresses + entities with seemingly no relation to each other. Then a day before our scheduled move he lied and said the previous owners were squatting. It delayed our move by over a week. It turns out that Abraham and Matthew had miscommunicated with each other and had promised the apartment to multiple people. After some arguing on the phone we were able to complete our move. No remorse or apology when Matthew handed off the keys. He also requested to do business in all cash which raised major red flags for us but at that point we really needed a place to live. If I could do it over I would have just taken the trouble to find another temporary apartment while we kept searching. The whole thing left such a bad taste in our mouths that we ended up breaking lease. Matthew promised us partial security deposit back as long as we could help them find new tenants and be responsible for showing the apartment. New tenants replaced us within 2 weeks, and we have yet to see that refund from them. I can’t say what I really want to say about them here, so I’ll just call them lily-livered shysters!
- Noise from 2nd avenue disrupts sleep
Advice to owner:
Stop being so shady! I would never move into another apartment owned or run by you guys. You are like a stereotype of NYC real estate grifters.
