Nice neighborhood, nice space, just know what you need.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Laundry in building
Great neighborhood
Close to the trains
Elevator in building
Overall nice space in apartment
Very pet friendly
Cons:
Roach problem for the whole year I lived there.
1st floor is home to families with young children, these children would run up and down the hallways all night long. (It didn’t bother me, but I know it’s something that could bother other people.)
Elevator is old, got stuck in it once and had to call the fire department.
People’s dogs relief themselves in said elevator, leaving it to smell like urine.
Advice to owner:
Just fix the roach problem.

Great Super but Could’ve Been Better
Former Tenant
Pros:
In short, my unit in itself was OK. It was gut reno’ed prior to move in, so I had very few issues with upkeep, pests, etc. Super was great, generally helpful and genuinely nice (if sometimes slower to respond). I decided to leave at the end of my lease but only due to financial implications of the pandemic.
Cons:
Management is generally unresponsive about larger issues that can’t be answered with a simple yes/no. Building was older and a bit run down so maybe could’ve been better maintained but not terrible. Biggest complaint was neighbors – a few were particularly loud (shouting, really bad singing, music blasting on weekends), and one tenant on the first floor routinely smoked in the lobby outside the tenant’s unit / in their unit with front door open / on front stoop.

Great management, great super
Former Tenant
Pros:
Management was terrific. Super is very on top of things and then some overall good guy. Building is right around the corner from the 1 and not too far from the C. Great location. Mail area is safe and my packages were safe each time.
Cons:
Elevator was a little janky. Sometimes people would forget to close the door to the trash area and roaches would find their way in, be in the laundry area.
Advice to owner:
Aside from working on the elevator, asking the woman on the first floor to quit smoking in the hall and asking some tenants to be a bit more mindful (fireworks set off on Fourth of July in hall, someone’s rotund child trying to ram my door down and kept playing with a package someone left on someone’s door…one time thing.) all else is good.

Super was good
Former Tenant
Pros:
Super was responsive. Laundry in the basement.
Cons:
one time our bathroom ceiling caved in and dumped a ton of water everywhere. Our upstairs neighbors had drainage problems, and I couldn’t tell whether they hadn’t communicated that or the super had been ignoring them.
Advice to owner:
Don’t skimp out fixing water damage. I had to call 311 to get the people who were fixing it to fix the entire water damaged area rather than just the places the drywall had cracked under the pressure of the water that was trapped up there.
