Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews for 306 WEST 142 STREET reveal mixed experiences. Residents appreciate proximity to transportation, new appliances, and convenient trash chutes. However, recurring issues with pests, stolen packages, non-responsive management, and delayed maintenance have been major drawbacks. Concerns about safety due to nearby incidents and noise levels, as well as dishonest landlord practices, have soured some renters' experiences. The building's potential is overshadowed by poor management practices and unaddressed maintenance issues, calling for improved responsiveness, pest control, and overall building upkeep. Consider the building's drawbacks before moving in.

Luxury? I wouldn't say so..
Former Tenant
Pros:
Very close to the A/B/C/D and great coffee shops, and the roof deck was super nice. Loved having control over my temperature, and great space/view for the price.
Cons:
My first year was pretty good. During my second year, it became clear that the building was infested with mice, and there were rats in the basement laundry room, which had broken machines the whole two years I lived there. Packages and laundry were regularly (read: daily) stolen, and none of the furniture on the patio or rooftop deck was properly taken care of. I don't really see anything that makes the building luxury besides the video intercoms.
The super was simply non-responsive to most issues. I got locked inside my bedroom for 2.5 hours because he hadn't installed a lock properly on the door. I had to break down the door to get out one day, and he didn't pick up his phone or answer my text messages the whole time. I once saw someone stealing packages from our lobby and offered to identify them since it was a huge issue - crickets.
The area is okay but after regularly inhaling smoke from the groups of people who would hang out outside the smoke shop next door for hours and witnessing a targeted fatal shooting practically on the steps of the building, I felt I was done.
Advice to owner:
A new super that's responsive. Get rid of the pests. Fix the washers and dryers.
