Review Summary for Dsj Management
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant feedback for DSJ MANAGEMENT properties reveals a mixed management experience. Positive notes highlight clean buildings with responsive supers, timely pest control in some locations, and rent-stabilized units near amenities and parks. However, multiple reviews point to serious issues such as pest infestations (mice, roaches), poor maintenance response, persistent mold, water damage, and noise problems. Some buildings suffer from neglect, unaddressed structural problems, and indifferent management, leading to tenant dissatisfaction and safety concerns. Prospective renters should expect variability in upkeep and responsiveness, with some buildings well-maintained while others require urgent improvements in maintenance, pest control, and tenant communication.

Great maintenance, clean
Former Tenant
Pros:
Super is very responsive, nice neighbors and clean (garbage gets taken out daily and super keeps area very clean). There is an exterminator that comes to the apartment every month.
Cons:
Some pests (natural as I live on the ground floor), but its nice that the building provides pest control (extermination)

It was an ok place to live if you can disregard the mice
Former Tenant
Pros:
Huge apartment, responsive landlord, elevator works,
Cons:
Mice everywhere, super takes forever to do anything, it's loud because of traffic
Over 2 years ago
A nightmare place to stay at times.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Maintenance never responds to concerns elevator always goes out past our problem and neighbors are nosy stagnant and stay home all day
Cons:
How to get a hold of the super super does not follow up with maintenance concerns in a timely manner; and it is a very low standard keeping building with ignorant people that run it.
Advice to owner:
Fix maintenance concerns in a timely manner incorpate better pest control and prioritize proper diversity in building

AVOID renting from DSJ Management.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location near the park and train.
Cons:
AVOID the mental anguish of this borderline-criminal enterprise. As noted from previous tenants reviews', the website UX/UI intentionally doesn't have a widget to log complaints (illegal per ADA) therefore there isn't a formal track record and you're stuck chasing around the Super who tells you "they are off work now, its the weekend".

From 2021-2023, I've email, text and verbally highlighted an extensive-list of uninhabitable conditions. Monthly floods, throughout several rooms: caused from outside (not pointing bricks'), radiator drainage from the upstairs unit and torrential down pour from a senior-tenants' overflowing the tub.The repeated incidents, festered into black mold and thousands of dollars of damaged equipment. There was no apology, compensation or rent adjustment to reflect the conditions. Although disclosed repeatly, the issues were not acknowledged until I called 311 in March 2023, and paid for a personal mold inspection and lab test, adding to the bill of losses.

In conjunction to living with black mold in three rooms for over a year, the list goes on within uninhabitable the dwellings of 50 E 18TH STREET BROOKLYN NY 11226.

The laundry list of shanty-town conditions comprise of:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

+ The daily, loud music spanning from 8 a.m -10 p.m.
+ Crumbling ceilings in bathroom and living room.
+ Tenants smoking cigarettes in hallways.
+ Rotting window moulding from moisture seeping from outside.
+ Mice running in walls.
+ Water pressure issues, leading to leaky faucets.
+ Rotted sink fixtures.
+ Roach infestation and carcasses peppered throughout unit, hallways, elevators and washing machine interfaces.
+ Non working light fixtures from water damage.
+ Non-working kitchen appliances.
+ Daily, domestic violence exhibited in hallway.
+ Daily, verbal scream matches from neighbors in the middle of the night.
+ Overnight construction and loud banging over the weekends'.

By the way.... the list goes on and on with DSJ Management (i.e 20-50 LLC) but I didn't want to write a novel. I'm sure the media and the Department of Justice would have field day with this dilapidated building, held up by the mask of paint.

Just save your sanity and AVOID renting from DSJ Management.

Slumlord 2023 DSJ MANAGEMENT
Former Tenant
Pros:
The location to the park and public transportation.
Cons:
Rats, roaches, dangerous neighbors, loud noise at any time of the day. Building structure not taken care of.
Advice to owner:
Treat tenants the way you would want to be treated.

Stay away from this place!
Former Tenant
Pros:
It's gorgeous on the outside and the lobby is kept clean.
Cons:
Although this place looks beautiful on the outside, it is damaged goods on the inside. The walls are very thin as well as the floors. Neighbors are noisy, and the board don't give a damn about you or the fact that you are a paying tenant. If you complain about someone making noise they will treat you like your the problem.
Advice to owner:
Let people know what they're getting into before you take their money!

A Nice and quite space to live
Former Tenant
Pros:
Close to the park, quite, really nice neighborhood, and the laundry is well maintained.
Cons:
You can hear you neighbor upstairs walking and sometimes talking. We had a mice infestation the time I lived in there.
Advice to owner:
Watch out for the small holes around the apartment.

Good old building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Landlord is responsive to issues. Building is clean. Apartment itself is pretty spacious and rent stabilized (always check if you’re apartment is rent stabilized.
Cons:
The walls/floors don’t block sound out too well, so noise cancelling headphones should be your friends. The building is old, and a renovated apartment might not look the most fantastic. But, really, not that bad.
Advice to owner:
🤷🏽‍♂️, they’ve taken care of my issues and I’ve appreciated their responsiveness, even during the pandemic. Good work.
