Review Summary for Robert Cohen
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Tenants report that buildings managed by Robert Cohen show mixed maintenance and management quality. Some tenants praise responsive supers and convenient locations with clean common areas and pest control efforts. However, several reviews highlight serious issues: persistent pest infestations (mice and roaches), mold problems, outdated facilities, slow or nonexistent responses to complaints, poor cleanliness, and noise disturbances. Heated complaints about unprofessional management, unfair pricing disparities due to rent stabilization, and inadequate repairs also recur. Prospective renters should expect variability in management responsiveness and building condition, with some buildings requiring tenant vigilance for maintenance and pest control.

Great First Apartment in NYC
Former Tenant
Pros:
Super is extremely responsive (will come in 30 minutes most times), great location near subway, light filled rooms (once you get to higher floors)
Cons:
Bleecker is such a busy street, it’s overwhelming to leave the building on a weekend and be in a swarm of people, no washer dryer and my unit and they wouldn’t add one even though they’ve added them to several other units

Cheap no frills value apartment
Former Tenant
Pros:
Lowest rent imaginable for an apartment in West Village. Gets the job done.
Cons:
Very small, very old, minimal management

Full of Mice
Former Tenant
Pros:
Super is very nice and does a good job trying to keep the building clean. He tries to help resolve problems within the apartment.
Cons:
Mice live in the walls and end up in the apartment. 40+ mice caught in the past year. Had brief roach infestation. Building has regular pest control and will send someone out if they believe the tenants can sue; however the building does not provide any permanent/long term solutions to fix the problem.

Mid Apartment for Price
Former Tenant
Pros:
Thick walls, so can barely hear neighbors. On site super.
Cons:
Bug problems, specifically small cockroaches but they have an exterminator come monthly. Issue is when surrounding apartments don't let him in. Also, apartment does not get good light. Heat is not consistently on in winter.
Advice to owner:
Dont be cheap

Roach infested
Former Tenant
Pros:
Around the corner from the laundromat
Cons:
Unresponsive super
Poor pest control
Mold
Advice to owner:
This building is infested with roaches. No matter how much we cleaned and complained with the super problem it was not taken care of so we got the hell out.

DO NOT RENT.

Great location, fine building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location is unmatched, friendly neighbors, responsive landlords and maintenance team, great apartment layout
Cons:
Loud street noise heard in apartment, some pest issues, no natural light in apartment, extremely loud radiator system.
Advice to owner:
More regular common space cleaning could be good, and maintenance on the heating system

Washington Plights
Former Tenant
Pros:
Large space. 3 bedroom with a lot of natural light and very cheap.
Cons:
5 floor walk up. Outdated and old. Strangers always in the building. Robberies. Dirty. Dangerous. The floors had giant splinters in them. Leaks.
Advice to owner:
Update the building.

Loud building Rude management, lots of mold
Former Tenant
Pros:
Conveniently located near the A express train. Super lives in building. Apartment was spacious.
Cons:
Insanely noisy neighbors, even more noise if your apartment faces front of building located across the street from a public school. Many pest issues of mice and roaches. Often neighbors would leave trash in the hallway. Management is extremely lazy and rude! It took them 6 months to replace my broken refrigerator. One of the bedrooms was covered in mold, only to learn the entire side of the right side of the building was covered in mold due to an air-conditioner from a top floor apartment and by law they were not required to tell anyone. Lastly, upon moving out I learned of asbestos issues in the building. The rude Management over charges on the market rate apartments to try and make up for the many rent stabilized apartments in the building that are paying a third of the market rate apartments prices.
Advice to owner:
Price your apartments fairly in comparison to your stabilized apartments. Hire a team that is not rude to your tenants. Treat your long term on time paying tenants with respect! Keep trash out of the hallway. Get rid of the mold.

It’s not worth how cheap it is
Former Tenant
Pros:
Really can’t think of any. The neighborhood is nice enough, but the landlord shouldn’t get any credit for that
Cons:
Tiny units, if you want to take a hot shower, be prepared to wait 15 minutes for it to warm up, roaches and mice EVERYWHERE. They had the regular exterminator then too, it made no difference, kitchen was disgusting when we moved in, super is overworked so he doesn’t answer and when you call the management company they give you grief for calling the people you’re paying thousands a month to instead of the overworked super. Please don’t live here, it’s not worth whatever you’re saving.
Advice to owner:
Please throw a few thousand at a really intense pest control sweep in every unit and the underbelly of the building. It’s absolutely disgusting that you continue to rent to people with an infestation like that. Someone is going to get sick.

Worst Apartment of my Life
Former Tenant
Pros:
There was nothing that I liked about this place, except maybe the couple of gentlemen who did maintenance. They were very nice and did they best they could.
Cons:
Roach and mice infestation. Contacted the super several times about it, yet the issue was never solved.
The glass on the front door of the building was smashed several times.
Trash left in the stairwell— we even saw used needles once.
Noise was awful. The neighbors below us would blast music at 4am. Like my room would vibrate from it. Complained several times and nothing was ever done about it.
All the windows in the apartment were defective in some way. They would either never open or close properly.
Oven had serious issues that were actually a hazard. Luckily the super was attentive to those and fixed it when we called.
We were paying way more than the place was worth.
Advice to owner:
Do better to make that building cleaner and safer for the residents.
