Beautiful Beacon Hill
Pros
This apartment was one of the best things about living in Boston. You are close to major train lines, the Boston Common, and downtown in minutes. The apartment itself is very sizable and the wood paneling throughout is beautiful. This unit is the only one in the building that has two full bathrooms which is helpful when you have guests stay overnight. Because this is a corner unit, we had amply natural lighting. Because this building is solid brick, you are very insulated in the winter which helps to keep energy costs down. It has a lot of character and was easy to make feel comfortable. Another thing that I appreciated was our kind neighbors and since the building is small, you pretty much know the familiar faces. Another plus is that is comes with storage in the basement and a small bike room. Overall, we loved living here and our landlord was immensely kind.
Cons
The main con is that some power breakers would cut out from time to time. This would especially happen in the summertime when the AC units are constantly on. The AC units themselves are a tad dated so they are probably louder than they need to be and don't cool as well as some newer models. One plus and con is being on the ground floor. It's easy to access but you do hear street noise from people and talking a lot more than if you were on a higher floor. Another big con is the garbage pick up. Boston already has a lot of rats and leaving garbage on the street (some people would leave it out from the night before), would make the problem worse. At times, we've found our trash opened and were given a ticket. During the summer, especially on warm nights, the streets can get a bit stinky.
Advice to the owners
No advice at this time as our landlord was very kind.
