Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews for 85 John Street highlight a well-maintained, clean building with friendly and responsive management and staff, particularly the 24/7 doormen and maintenance teams. Tenants appreciate soundproofing, ample laundry facilities on each floor, and a safe, quiet environment with respectful neighbors and effective pest control. Some drawbacks noted include outdated gym equipment, limited rooftop amenities, occasional slow maintenance responses, and minor noise concerns like thin walls and outside street noise. Despite these, the building’s prime location, cleanliness, and attentive staff make it a recommended and comfortable residence for renters seeking convenience in Manhattan.

A simple but effective residence

Pros

Management is responsive. Very clean and management team is very friendly.

Cons

Amenities could use some work. Gym has outdated equipment that’s really starting to wear and not a lot of seating in the common area. Rooftop is pretty basic.

Advice to the owners

Update and expand gym- at least a full dumbbell rack or add station with a bench press and barbell
