A mess of a living situation thats almost darling with a ton of work
Former Tenant
Pros:
-bright and cheery— giant windows -seriously, great natural lighting -big bedroom (weird shape tho so can’t fit a queen) -true 1BR -exposed brick -LOVE the street it’s on. Feels safe at night with the nightlife, yet quiet. -finally almost mouse-proof’d the apt after several years of nonstop effort with no help from management or super. -management says no dogs but many units seem to have them & nobody seems to care
Cons:
-management beyond unresponsive about issues -whole building has mouse and roach infestation, has for YEARS. Prepare to do battle á la Nutcracker to fortress yourself against mice -had a stove with a low key gas leak 3 years. It was the first thing I fought to replace. Super gaslit me about the gas leak (the irony!) . After con-Ed threatened to force-evacuate all tenants they finally replaced it. Just learned this was supposed to be addressed before I even moved in because a lower floor unit caught on fire from it or something shortly before I moved in. -when things go wrong and need repair (mice falling from ceiling, water falling from ceiling, packages getting stolen, no lock on door or smoke detector upon move in, no fridge for at least a month…) there is absolutely no rush to fix it. -packages get stolen left and right. -homeless wander into the building semi regularly, camp outside your door, and have tried to enter your apartment. -locks on front doors regularly rigged to stay unlocked -roof beyond busted and they won’t fix -some units occupied by families that fight loudly all the way down the halls
Advice to owner:
Fix your mouse and roach infestation ASAP. Get a real exterminator, nobody signs up for the one you have because they’re zero help, give you one sticky trap and say good luck. We need HOLES FILLED. Structural issues repaired. If you did every unit once we’d be set. The fact this hasn’t been addressed properly for HOW long is appalling…

Decent starter Apt, not a long term spot
Former Tenant
Pros:
Decent rent, responsive super, good heating, and good water.
Cons:
Building not in the best shape, consistent problems w/ vermin, trash management was a nightmare consistently across my time there.
Advice to owner:
Do proper site survey work when tenants move out and address long-term vermin access.

If you like being happy, don’t move here
Former Tenant
Pros:
It was located in a fun neighborhood and convenient to go to school.
Cons:
1. There is a unmanageable mouse infestation in the building. My roommate and I killed 30+ mice (we counted) by ourselves and the exterminator just threw poison packets behind the oven. It doesn’t help that the building sits above a restaurant that leaves food garbage out often. There are also roaches everywhere and have been left squished in the hallway. 2. Water temp was backwards on all appliances. 3. There are tenants who get in drunken fights in the hallway, scream at each other as well as at least two apartments being occupied by hoarders, most likely exacerbating the mouse and roach infestation. Also massive property damage occurred from flooding multiple times. 4. Extremely passive aggressive superintendent who used to pretend to not receive our texts until we called the management company and complained multiple times.

Old Tenement Style
Former Tenant
Pros:
Almost all tenants have been there decades and look after each other
Cons:
You’ll never get your deposit back, if there is a problem you need to fix it yourself, they use a PO Box so you can’t take legal action against them
Advice to owner:
Take care of tenants that pay on time, and have lived there for almost a decade!

Perfect For Mice Lovers
Former Tenant
Pros:
Close to Tompkins, bar next door isn’t too loud, garbage is convenient
Cons:
Consistent mice problem, cleanliness in back is not great (probably due to garbage system), packages frequently stolen
