Building riddled with problems, exacerbated by landlords
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location and proximity to multiple train lines
Cons:
Bed bugs, Rodents, Roaches found throughout the building. Unreliable heat/hot water. Non-stop gentrification construction. Noise and dust all day. Landlord and management gaslights tenants to avoid addressing issues directly impacting health and safety.
Advice to owner:
Stop the lies

Cheap, get what you pay for
Former Tenant
Pros:
Inexpensive for area, some interesting long standing people in the building - sometimes that’s a great thing, but sometimes it was a terrible thing. Super is great. Things get fixed quick.
Cons:
Laundry is a nightmare. It’s dirty and old. VERY loud.
Advice to owner:
Be more responsive.

Dead rat on stairs
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice location, quiet neighbors
Cons:
They count the first floor as “floor 1” so technically it’s a 6th floor walk up instead of 5. 6th floor walkups require an elevator. But that’s how they get ya.

Also saw a dead rat on the stairway once

There was always mini cockroaches

Garbage landlords
Former Tenant
Pros:
I like that it’s a diverse community of old people, young people, people who’ve lived in the building for 30 years and the rotating door of young people. Also the location is amazing and the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood. You can hear ppl in the halls but not the neighbors which is cool because you’re never disturbed by walking/TV/music. Nice thick walls.
Cons:
Landlords do not care about tenants. It is SO LOUD. INSANELY LOUD. No noise insulation from the street. The washers and dryers went out in December and I moved out in September because they still hadn’t fixed them (in the middle of a pandemic when everything was closed) AND I saw the brokers who work for the management company lying to potential renters about them working and I called him out on it and he couldn’t even admit that he thought they worked. It was a clear and blatant lie. Also, they refused to answer calls, voicemails and emails when it didn’t benefit them.
Also, someone’s crackhead daughter does drugs in the hallways and screams occasionally. It’s disturbing, but she didn’t rob me.
Advice to owner:
Treat your tenants like they’re human beings. Basic decency would serve you well. Also, respond to them when they reach out. It was a pandemic but that doesn’t mean that you can ignore emails that don’t suit you for months.
