Pros:
The only thing I liked about the building is the laundry on site but I still had issues with that too.
Cons:
The Markle is HORRIBLE. It’s an all women’s, Christian “housing” aka covenant in the east village. The “all women” thing is supposed to make residents “feel safe” so most of the residents are senior citizens. First of all, they are all judge mental and rude. You will never feel at home here, unless you’re a nun— maybe. The owner of the building screamed at someone in front of me for being a trans woman and denied her entry. It’s just embarrassing at this day and age.
The food is absolutely revolting. They offer 2 meals a day with rent (which is ridiculously expensive because you don’t get to have a microwave or hot plate— just a tiny mini fridge that smells like something died in it).
They don’t allow male guests. Have fun with that.
They don’t allow ANY guests into your room after a certain time of day unless you have them register 24 hours in advance. It’s insanity.
Laundry is on site but extremely overpriced .
The walls are paper thin. Expect plumbing to be a nightmare. Pests everywhere, the place is filthy and has carpet that has not been replaced, let alone steamed, since the 60’s.
Advice to owner:
Sell the building and move to the Midwest.

Good for Transitioning, Then Exit
Former Tenant
Pros:
Flexible rent timeline — I was month to month. Most of the staff is nice. Great location. No funiture needed.
Cons:
There are a lot of rules; you become really paranoid when you live here long enough. It’s literally dorm rooms. No kitchens, cafe is downstairs.
Advice to owner:
N/A : The Salvation Army owns and runs this place, so I doubt they are looking to change anything.
