Greedy unresponsive slumlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
Amazing location on a really nice street. The other neighbors in the building were very friendly and respectful.
Cons:
The landlord, Douglas Fromme, is an unscrupulous slumlord that does the absolute minimum possible for his tenants. He was slow and unresponsive to communication about issues in the building. He would nickel and dime tenants in any way possible to squeeze extra dollars out of them. For example he charged a ridiculous extra fuel cost for heat on top of electricity bills that was purposely buried in the lease. This would run $100-$300 per month in the winter time for a 1 bdrm apt. If rent checks were simply 1 day late he would hit you with $150 fee. He treated the superintendent and other workers in the building like dirt and clearly vastly underpaid them. Everyone in the building was unanimously frustrated and unhappy with him. The building was consistently dirty with trash always pulling up outside. Most wall outlets in the building as well as many light fixtures didn’t work. Water was constantly clogged and backed up in the sink & shower. He would never actually fix any root problems with the building but instead opt to bandaid issues in the cheapest way possible so that the issue would always come back a few months later.
Advice to owner:
Stop being a greedy awful human being and show some empathy for your tenants.
