Worst rental experience in 10 years of living in UWS
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location Amazing neighborhood
Cons:
We hired movers and took off work to move in on date agreed on lease yet when we showed up the former tenets left everything in apartment. This was a bad sign. We had to plead with former landlord to allow us to stay and pay high fees in order to wait for Brusco(landlord) to clean out apartment. Broker city stop or spire is actually owned by Brusco and they only show his building and use to take fee from new renters. It should be noted they never answer their phones and it goes to voicemail. So this took us actually going in person to their W73rd St location. The company being unreachable was a big barrier. Landlord: refused to fix things in timely manner. Had water leak from upstairs bath to bedroom dripping into light fixtures no urgency. Broker who works for landlord company specifically rented us apartment as a 1 Br but we were not allowed to have a bed in ground floor. You can still see pictures on Zillow of this set up even though we were told no bed downstairs and it was violation of lease. The building was falling apart. The door buzzer didn’t work, the lighting in hallway was falling out with wires exposed. There was a rodent problem with no exterminator provided. The heat was extremely poor and 311 issued fines. Brusco and upper management do not make self reachable and they hire contractors to do work in apartment which is very frustrating. They had a guy paint our apartment who got paint on our rug and brand new sofa. Getting them to pay for new items took 5 months of calls. We also had mold in the bedroom aka rec room which was found by 311. They later found lead in building as well. Brusco did nothing for us but allowed us to break lease after we got a lawyer involved. Brusco himself is extremely rude and showed up to the apartment with out notice asked to come inside while we were working from home. He wanted to see if we had a bed in the basement. This is illegal. Brusco also screamed at us in person and on the phone when asking for buzzer to be repaired as we continued to be locked out due to the buzzer issue. He made sexist remarks to me as a women. He is nasty, sexist and aggressive. Read Yelp reviews
