Avoid no worth the stress
Former Tenant
Pros:
Really nice area in UWS
Cons:
Please avoid this building, it is not worth the stress and is extremely overpriced. I am only writing this review so others do not have to go through what I did. Landlords who live in the building; - Landlord will literally complain to you through lengthy emails about everything - Very common theme in emails/phone calls painting themselves in good light and tenant blaming/taking advantage of tenants - I have witnessed the landlord go through our trash on multiple occasions - Landlord always complains how expensive things are and will nickle and dime you for everything. For example, we didn't have hot water for 3 weeks in April when it was still very cold and the landlord said "it wasn't that bad and just part of the brownstone charm" and after numerous complaints from building tenants, they did give us a minimal rent reduction (a couple of hundred dollars) stating that it was a "gift" because they were "good landlords". This was despite hot water and heat legally needing to be provided. - Continually state that they will get a building manager (which would make this building a lot less stressful not having to deal with the landlord) but they have been saying this for 6 months and I doubt they are willing to spend the money. Building; - We originally signed the lease with laundry in the building and then the landlord continually complained that the laundry unit in the entryway was too noisy (despite the landlord only allowing us 2 loads on a set day a week between 11-5pm). So there is no laundry in the building - but of course the landlord still uses it. So if the contract states laundry use that is untrue. - The intercom they refuse to fix and so only the buzzer works so you cant communicate with anyone and have to walk down the stairs to collect packages/guests etc. - Absolutely no pest control. Towards the end of our lease we had a lot of issues with mice/rats. - The common areas (staircase/entryway) was only vacuumed once in the time I lived here and that was only because of an open house. So the staircase/walls etc are very dirty which is evident when you walk in. - The heating is not good - in winter its very cold and I had to get additional heating which was very costly on my electricity bill. The heating is so old that the poles rattle and constantly wakes you up during the night all through winter. - Only trash cans outside, so you have to keep your recycled trash in your apt until recycle pick-up day each week
