Pros:
The literally only Pro about this building is that there was windows in the livingroom, gas stove, dishwasher. Since moving in, The only PRO that remains is the windows in the livingroom.
Cons:
For The first 3 months of living here, my toilet did not flush any solid matter. I was advised by an external source that there was most likely something stuck in the trap. Anyone with the skillset, could easily fix it in 5 mins.
The super, and his "helper" told me that I needed to stop flushing maxipads down the toilet. ( I have never done that once in my life), and that I would have to pay someone else to fix it because when they flushed the toilet, the water did go down, so there "was no issues"..
I paid a plumber $350 of my own money to come to the apartment, remove the paint brush that the contractor dropped in pre move-in, and toilet was fixed.
A month later, in January, the entire building was without HEAT, and HOT WATER for TEN DAYS. I had to call the city, and ConEd myself to get any answers. Turns out, a major line was neglected by the owner and busted within the building. They remedied this by ripping out the gas stove (major reason of moving here) and putting in a "size small" electric stove. This left THREE INCHES around each side of the stove for food to fall down. So, it was either, pull the entire stove away from the wall every time I wanted to cook, or let the pests be fed!
Pests? Yes! Pests!
My dishwasher broke. Filled up with Grey Water. I called the super to let him know, and he told me "how" to use the dishwasher (!!?!??!!?!) After telling him that I do in fact know how to use the dishwasher, he said it would take "a while" for the water to drain itself. Just to wait.
WELL, after waiting A WEEK, for the dishwasher to drain itself (it did not drain) My apartment became FULLY infested with roaches, attracted by the sewage water!
Dishwasher totalled, I was reminded that IN THE LEASE I agreed to the stipulation that I was "NOT ENTITLED" to a dishwasher. I saw a QR code sticker on the dishwasher- it takes you to the distributor's page. This particular dishwasher was 16 years old, Bought in 2020, for NINETY DOLLARS.
Instead, they ripped the dishwasher out, left a giant rotting hole sitting in the kitchen, Water damage, I am sure, that they will charge me for.
I have not been able to cook or EAT in my apartment for over two months, as I have been battling cockroaches... They are EVERYWHERE. I signed up for the exterminator paid for by the building, and he came in, ignored anything I said, literally spritzed one spot in my kitchen, and left.
Still have roaches. Spent hours of time worrying and cleaning, and over a thousand dollars trying to remedy it myself. Cannot sleep. Horros. Roaches. everywhere. They hide when the lights are on. When i turn the lights on in the bathroom in the middle of the night? SCATTER. EVERYWHERE. When I go to grab a glass of water in the middle of the night? ROACHES. SCATTER.EVERYWHERE. You know what else roaches do? POOP. there is CONSTANT roach poop EVERYWHERE. ALWAYS. I clean 10 times a day top to bottom. ROACH POOP EVERYWHERE.
People in the building steal packages, the hallways reek constantly of wet dog, because the super just stopped vacuuming. Why would he come to maintain the building, if he wont respond to an emergency? The answer? He has not, would not, will not.
Its a disgusting, smelly, rotting building. They automatically debit your account for rent each month, but beyond that, youre on your own. ROTTING. nearly 40 THOUSAND dollars contracted to pay, for this living hell hole.
The super doesnt care. he calls me a dumb woman, and refuses to respond. The building management doesnt care. They dont answer calls or emails. And when they do? They deflefct on whoever, or whatever they can. Instead of trying to remedy any issue, apologize, or even emphasize??
ConEd blamed for internal neglect.
I was blamed for my super's girlfriend bursting in the apartment unannounced while in the shower. They said I took too long to answer the door. I didnt even know who she was or why she was there! "to measure something " I was told.
The city has been informed of so many issues of livelihood in this building by all of the tenants. Since I have moved in, it has only been a constant of people moving out.
My rent is nearly three thousand dollars.
Ive never in my life, experienced something like this. Ive lived all over the world, nice places, undesirable places, doorman buildings, and row houses in philly. This is by far the most dumbfounding, demoralizing, and patronizing experience of my life.
Advice to owner:
Fire Building Management Company. The superintendent is letting the building rot. The Management is approving of this. You can only get away with taking money from renters for so long, until no one will step foot in your building.
