Nice but Cheap Renovations
Former Tenant
Pros:
This building was recently gutted and renovated, and it looks really nice. My apartment is super sunny and the layout is really nice. 2 bedroom unit in this building is definitely nicer than the 1 bedrooms--we have full-sized appliances and a washer/dryer in unit. It's also awesome to be able to control our own heat/ac. It's above a restaurant but we don't hear noise from them and everyone who works at the restaurant is kind and friendly. It's also super close to the 2/3.
Cons:
We were the first tenants to move into this newly renovated space, and we definitely felt like they had rushed through a lot of finishing touches. We had to remind the landlord and broker over and over that the apartment needed to be cleaned before we moved in. After we signed the lease, it was still dusty with construction debris. Even after, I had to clean dust, random screws, etc. My roommates and I agreed pretty early on that it seemed like the renovation was done pretty cheaply. The brand new ac/heat unit in one of the bedrooms had a leak, the washer was not leveled properly and shook the apartment when we used it, the digital intercom broke--we had to reach out to Jimmy (landlord) several times with issues. They were resolved within a few days. Twice recently we have had a leak from the bathroom of the apartment above us come through our smoke detector. The first time it caused the smoke alarm to go off for over an hour until Jimmy contacted someone to pull it out for us. There is a fair amount of street noise. The windows are super drafty and our electric bill was $300-350 all winter. Overall the pros outweigh the cons and the reasons that we are not renewing our lease are unrelated to our experience living here. TLDR; while we experienced some frustrations, we've still enjoyed living here.
