Not the best at all
Former Tenant
Pros:
The location is ok for the neighborhood and there's an elevator that works 98% of the time, depending on your floor the neighbors are quiet.
Cons:
The block the building is on is a little suspect, some people you may want to stay away from. There haven't been too many issues from what I've noticed but keep your guard up. The building itself is in rough shape, paint is needed in the hallways and vestibule, a number of the mailboxes are busted and the floors are very dingy even if they mop, they don't mop or sweep often enough. The staircases are FILTHY. I've lived here for over 5 years and have not had one inspection. There is not much storage, the kitchen is too small with no countertop space and we can't use one of the cabinets because the fridge blocks it. In the bathroom we have a bad mold issue around the soap dish and it's fallen a few times just to have to be replastered and then the mold comes back. Heat is either too hot or not on during the winter. We've had issues with mice and we're on the top floor so that means the building is not taking care of rodents. We always have a bad roach problem in the warmer months. The super has changed 3 times since I've been here and they're around but the latest super doesn't seem to care that much. Neighbors are ok, usually very quiet on the 5th floor but we are having an issue with packages being stolen on a regular basis, cops have been notified from what I've heard but I don't know if there's much they can do. Also garbage on the weekends is terrible, the bins are often fully full from Fri-Sun and the porters are not active on the weekend. I personally have not seen the landlord or anyone from management in the building, and they don't reach out to tenants.
Advice to owner:
It's very apparent that the building is being left to deteriorate because there are a number of rent stabilized apartments, some tenants have been here since the 70s and 80s. That's not OK. The rent is varied and obviously the apartments that pay more rent are nicer. The people here deserve a better place to call home. Please do something about the mice and roaches.
