Craziest Utilities Known to Man
Former Tenant
Pros:
We absolutely loved our time here. Our unit was renovated beautifully, very responsive super, no issues with pests, and lovely street/neighbors in the building. In-unit washer/dryer, dishwasher, central heat/AC, huge bath tub, decent sized bedrooms.
Cons:
The deal breaker was the utilities cost, which was known to be insanely expensive, surpassing $700 (Yes, you read that correctly) in some of the winter months, and between $300-500 for all other months. This is the same experience as all the B units in the building. We trauma bonded with some of our neighbors over it. We went to battle with the management company, ConEd, and the 311--to no avail. Something is definitely wrong, yet no one wants to take ownership to figure out what is causing the issue, and the ones who end up paying the cost are the tenants. We had an energy audit which did nothing. ConEd claims that they are billing based on our usage. And yet I have NEVER heard of a 3 bedroom apartments energy usage going this high. You'd think we were heating a mansion in Antarctica. We were sad to leave but sadly the utilities were too out of control to justify staying. Also, the unit got very little sunlight, especially in common areas. The winter season was dreary.
Advice to owner:
Fix the utilities issue in the B units if you would like to see better tenant retention.
