Bad First NYC Apartment
Former Tenant
Pros:
Neighbors were friendly. Lobby and stairs were generally kept clean. The super was great (but he didn’t live in the building, so it sometimes took him a while to get there).
Cons:
Very loud radiators all winter. Not a great location in terms of access to trains. Not great value for rent compared to room size. One of the driers was broken the whole year I lived there, and management wouldn’t have it fixed, and kept removing the sign warning tenants. Apartment didn’t have smoke detectors when I moved in, but they did add them later. Garbage area not properly labeled. On lease renewal, they tried to raise rent by 9%.
Advice to owner:
Safety features such as smoke detectors shouldn’t have to be requested. Repair the noisy boiler. Don’t raise rent by 9%.
