Learn from our mistakes....think twice
Former Tenant
Pros:
Super Oscar is FAB! Sweet guy who always handled issues quickly and effectively. Our apartment was nicely renovated. And had a ton of storage space.
You'd think the in-unit laundry would be a pro until you realize the machine is practically in the living room. It's also a single machine with a ventless drier - so one load of start to finish will take you 2 hours minimum. And good luck doing your laundry and also enjoying anything on TV at the same time.
Cons:
Terrible noise issues and many neighbors that blast music all day and sometimes through the night - the most egregious times this happened it lasted until 6am. We're talking music so loud EVERY wall in our apartment vibrated from the noise.
The bedroom windows leaked and the ceilings would always get brown water spots every time there was heavy rain. Management's solution was to have the super paint the spots, but not to fix the actual problem of the roof/casements letting in water.
Building management was a general nightmare - period. Constantly disorganized and you would be lucky if you got responses to any contact. And all the reincorporated names of the management companies over the time we lived in the building included: Granite Management, St Marks Management, TriHill Management, do your research on them!
Oh! And while the unit started out pretty reasonably, rent went up $200 every year we were there. We were tenants who never paid late and took care of our space, but no effort was ever made to retain us. The value finally wasn't worth the hassle, noise, and disrespect we felt.
Advice to owner:
Value your good tenants.
