Renovated studio in great location but…
Former Tenant
Pros:
Fantastic location, short walk from the Q. Most units are fully renovated and have dishwasher and washer dryer. Building super was nice and responsive.
Cons:
Experienced problems with heating not working several times in the middle of winter. Water pressure was always low and plumbing had problems occasionally. Ceiling near the window in my unit started leaking, but the landlord just had someone paint over, a few days later water damage was noticeable again. Building stairs are steeper than average. Landlord didn’t proactively send a renewal lease, I had to inquire but decided to move out after a year.
Advice to owner:
Need better maintenance, not just bandaid fixes.

Good first place in nyc
Former Tenant
Pros:
Kitchen and bathroom are updated with stainless steel appliances and washer/dryer and there is an in-wall air conditioner. The super is very nice and tries to help as much as she can. I rarely, if ever, hear my neighbors.
Cons:
The stairs are extremely steep. The landlord is not very helpful. The worst part about this building/unit is the heating pipe. The first night I moved in, I woke up to an insanely loud banging and I figured out that it was coming from the bathroom. It went on for about 20 minutes and then the radiator made the same noise for about 5 minutes. This happened multiple times per day and hasn’t stopped. Several tenants complained and a plumber came to fix the problem, but it didn’t help. Plumbers came a few more times and finally the pipe in the bathroom stopped making the clanging noise, but it started to whistle and spray steam out of the top. I told the super about the new issue and she contacted the landlord, but it has yet to be fixed. The steam has caused mold to grow on the ceiling now.
Advice to owner:
I would be appreciative of better communication from the landlord because I feel like all of my concerns go unanswered.

Quiet normal neighbors
Former Tenant
Pros:
Heat works well, which is a blessing to me. The super was great- very quick to fix issues
Cons:
I saw a couple cockroaches. Unpleasant to see. Only one time i saw it in my actual apartment. The landlord manager is intimidating and- very rude, yells, all around mean. Floors are sooooo thin, could hear my neighbor upstairs zipping his jacket- it’s that bad. I had problems with that, ut was a nightmare.
Advice to owner:
The recycling and trash is in a terrible spot. Smells sometimes when you walk in the building.
