Terrible experience - don’t do it
Former Tenant
Pros:
Apartment was sunny and a spacious for the price.
Cons:
THIS IS A SLUM LORD SITUATION, BEWARE! Building management was extremely unresponsive. They did not fix ESSENTIAL issues like a hole in the ceiling causing a leak. Once you complained they would often ignore your calls for days or weeks making it impossible to get in touch with them or fix any issues. One of the neighbors had a severe roach infestation affecting a large part of the building and responses to that were either slow or nonexistent.
The super once told me being locked out of my apartment wasn’t an emergency and that he wasn’t in town to let me in, and after escalating the issue through several channels he showed up in 15 minutes - he was clearly in the neighborhood and just didn’t want to come. This cost me hundreds of dollars and he was willing to leave me without a lock on my apartment overnight as a woman who lived alone in a building that often had people breaking in who didn’t live there to steal packages or cause other mischief.
Backyard is poorly maintained and one of the tenants volunteered to do all the maintenance there but last I heard that tenant was moving out . They would try to save money on heat by freezing you in the winter. Roaches are everywhere. Do not rent from Brusco!!
Only two washers and dryers in the basement that was shared with the next door building, so 40 apartments total!! They were always in use and I had to wake up at the crack of dawn to hope they would be open. I ended up using an outside laundry too. Took a month to receive the laundry card.
Package theft was also the norm and I lost hundreds of dollars of packages. I also had poor experiences with the realtors who do the listings for this building.
Advice to owner:
Actually take tenants issues seriously and take pride in providing a livable situation and answer the phone when we call, or don’t be a landlord.
