THIS APARTMENT GAVE ME BED BUGS THE WEEK I MOVED IN
Former Tenant
Pros:
NOTHING. EVERYTHING WAS HORRIBLE ABOUT THIS PLACE. THE LANDLORD IS AWFUL.
Cons:
I moved into 156 E 39th st. apartment and within a week of me living there I was infested with bed bugs! They were in the walls prior to me moving in hence why they were in the walls and I got infested within a week. The landlord George and his bug inspector Mauricio knew about it. After I got bit in my bed and saw a bed bug. I had his inspector Mauricio come in (who comes in every month) and he didn’t even do an inspection (didn’t even look in my bed) then claimed I had them cause he knew they were there prior. He also tried blaming me then! when that doesn’t make any logical sense. The timing for it to be an infestation in the walls is not logical within the time of me being there for a week. Plus I had a brand new mattress and everything. They did nothing to treat it as well when I was being bit and they let me sleep with it. Which is so unethical. I ended up having to leave and stay at hotels because my apartment was unsanitary and unlivable. George is an awful landlord and human being. He lied on the lease about there being no prior bed bug cases when obviously there was. His real estate is a family owned business. He’s not legally HPD registered and has never even had to give a proper report on bed bugs. He lies about it on the lease and gave them to me and all my belongings that I had to get treated. That is why I moved out within just a week of living there and broke my lease with him. I decided to avoid court and I made him reimburse me for treatment for my things that got infested along with my stays at the hotel. Which is what I would have received in court as well minus the money on lawyers and my time and energy on however long a bed bug case in NY might take. I also reported him to HPD. But I had already broken my lease with him by the time they wanted to come by and investigate and they couldn't enter. They still said to me they would ticket and get him in trouble after I spoke with them about my situation. I suggest to stray away from this awful place and the inflictions that come with it. This place is not taken care of at all. The toilet and sink were leaking when I moved in...the locks and door knobs on the doors were also broken leading to my bedroom and were never fixed even when I addressed it with George. I believe the way that door shuts is also a fire hazard bc it doesn’t follow behind you when shutting. That whole experience ruined my living situation temporarily and really messed with my mental health. George still lies on the lease and never properly took care of the issue. He’s an evil man and should be in jail. He has broken so many NY state laws with what he did to me and what he is still doing. George and his real estate agents Niko, Alfred, and Calogero tricked another new innocent tenant into living there after me. She recently reached out to me, which is why I am writing this. They had lied to her and the reasoning for why I moved out and tricked her into signing a 16 month lease! I am writing this to help and prevent anyone else who looks at this place and considers living here. I hope I can prevent you from experiencing a TERRIBLE apartment that is not taken care of by a TERRIBLE and EVIL man named George who should not have the position to be a landlord.
Advice to owner:
You should not be a landlord.
