Worth it for access to rent stabilized units but that's it
Former Tenant
Pros:
The apartments in Stuytown are huge compared to the average New York City apartment - not only is there a lot of space, but there is ample storage via closets (in a true 2 bedroom we have 3 hall closets plus one bedroom closet, all sizeable along with a lot of storage space in the cabinets and pantry). AC is a fixed cost which is helpful in both the summer and the winter - in the summer it can be run without fear of a high ConEd bill, and in the winter it's helpful to offseat the steam heat. Stuytown is an urban oasis in the middle of Manhattan and this unit is far enough away from the street to avoid noise but close enough to avoid a 15-20 minute walk to the subway
Cons:
This particular building seems to have a disproportionate amount of issues with ConEd. At least 1-2 times per month we receive notice - often last minute - that we will not have hot water or heat for 12-24 hours due to ConEd repairs. A lot of Stuytown residents have lived here for years and are locked into hundred dollar rent controlled rates. There's a outspoken community of older original residents who are outwardly unhappy with the decision to sell Stuytown to Blackstone, and they're equally unimpressed and outspoken about changes in policy and programming designed to make the apartments appeal to a younger client base - concerts on the Oval, allowing dogs.

Mouse and roaches!
Former Tenant
Pros:
So many wonderful amenities in Stuytown, everything is close by and this building is far enough from 14th st that you don’t hear the bustle of the city. Nice neighbors, lots of cats and dogs.
Cons:
Had mouse and cockroach issues in the kitchen area. Management handled the mice but the roaches persisted.

Standard Stuytown Apartment
Former Tenant
Pros:
Lovely green space around the buildings. Quick responses from Stuy and leasing office / resident services building available to help. Nice large rooms.
Cons:
Centrally controlled heating that is usually too hot or too cold. Opening windows when it’s too cold or turning on the AC does the trick though.

Convenient and Residential Apartments
Former Tenant
Pros:
- proximity to the oval means you have no dearth of outdoor space - super convenient maintenance
Cons:
- facade repairs in the last year - walls are pretty thin

Pretty Good, not great.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Stuytown is mainly quiet, and offers a nice buffer from the surrounding neighborhoods. New washing machines were just installed in the build.
Cons:
So many buildings mean not a ton of natural light during the day, especially if your apartment’s windows have AC units. NYU students make lousy neighbors.

Well maintained property with responsive management
Former Tenant
Pros:
Building well cared for. Management responsive to issues in a timely manner. Great amenities and community activities.
Cons:
In regard to noise, you are at the mercy of your neighbors. There's not much soundproofing between floors and walls, so if you have a noisy neighbor, you're out of luck. If noise doesn't bother you or you end up with quiet neighbors, it's great living here.
Also, views can vary widely depending on which building/apt you are in. I face Northwest and the apartment is constantly dark. Not fun.

Great Memories from Living in Stuytown Once Upon A Time
Former Tenant
Pros:
Amazing location. Clean building. Convenient to MTA and grocery shopping
Cons:
Complaints were submitted by most people in the building regarding a neighbor- unfortunately management didn’t do much other than send security to “check things out.” This led to the decision to not renew my lease as I was the lucky one to live next door
Advice to owner:
Listen to and actually do something when neighbors have to consistently call security over barbaric neighbors

love Stuytown!
Former Tenant
Pros:
utilities were all included, great neighborhood to walk around, community had very nice amenities with cafes and public spaces and sports
Cons:
thin walls - can hear noise from neighbors, had people over for a party and received multiple noise complaints
Advice to owner:
reduce noise, for all flex walls make sure they are floor to ceiling

Great Place to Live
Former Tenant
Pros:
Well maintained, quiet, AC units provided
Cons:
Can’t control heat (WAY too hot), slow to respond to maintenance requests, they charge for a lot of things
Advice to owner:

Great living experience
Former Tenant
Pros:
Maintenance was quick to respond, nice amenities, unlimited utilities, laundry in-building, great community/campus to walk around right in the middle of Manhattan
Cons:
Thin walls! Could hear neighbors and sometimes construction. Some flex walls aren't floor to ceiling and they have a small window at the top
Advice to owner:
Have floor-to-ceiling flex walls please!

great place to live with nature
Former Tenant
Pros:
The neighborhood is really great. there are many tree, inside park, and farmers market during weekend. and building stuff keep clean really well such as inside community, street and Landry room. When something was broken, they reach out quickly and fix issues. And as soon as Covid-19 happened, they put sanitizer in the building and share the information.
Cons:
old apartment so water pressure is not really good. and when I use AC, smells little bit of humidity like mold.
Advice to owner:
If you check inside apartment really well before new tenants move in, would be perfect
Exterior of buildings is not particularly attractive
Advice to owner:
Keep up the great work!

Great Management and community
Former Tenant
Pros:
Building is well maintained, spacious, and in a great location. The management is super responsive and the engagement/perks are great if you take advantage of things like weekend farmers markets, family events, movie nights, lawn activities.
Cons:
It is on the pricier side but you’re paying for the comfort of having a large company handle everything from screen installations to security knocking on neighbors doors for noise complaints, porters who keep laundry and garbage handling efficient, etc.
Advice to owner:
Having the website updated to be more user friendly for rent payments, maintenance requests, etc. would be a great improvement.
