169 W 228th St - An OK Place to Live
Former Tenant
Pros:
Very small building, so not too many neighbors, only 1-2 on each floor. Appliances are nice (when they actually work- check Cons) Bathroom is designed nicely and the waterfall showerhead is great Nice closet space in bedrooms Backyard (though never used) Parking spots Plenty of garbage pails outside.
Cons:
Management will never respond about long term issues. They have no direct contact and will leave your repair requests unread OR mark them as completed when they are not. Our washer/dryer was malfunctioning for over 1 year and never got resolved despite each repair request being marked as complete. Windows are not double sealed, so bugs were always flying into the apartment from the windows when closed. If you like ladybugs, silverfish and mosquitoes, this is a pro. Bathroom vent not sufficient, the ceiling would get mold spots every couple of months. Dishwasher was always filled with moldy green water, even when unused. Did not use it at all due to this. Heat pipe often spat out liquid, staining the walls and inside of smaller bedroom closet. Definitely dangerous heat. No soundproofing at all on the front doors. Be prepared to hear your neighbors wrestling late at night. Some tenants let their dogs go bathroom on the single stairwell. There were multiple instances and it took over a week for it to be cleaned up. Cameras on each floor are not active. There is a crack on the entire side of the building that runs down each floor. You can see outside from the 3-4th floor hallway. The building definitely needs to be inspected to ensure it won't fall apart.
