Pros:
The building is close to the D, B, & 4 trains. Its also great to catch the bx 35, bx1, and bx2 buses.
The building is an open area with many people in the area. The apartments are spacious. Fairly good amount of neighbors are friendly and respectful and quiet.
Someone cleans once a week but unfortunately not well. The building is relatively quiet and has good water pressure.
Cons:
The building is filled with roaches and mice. In my apartment there are more roches than I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
The building has no elevator. Its not good for people that have disabilities.
The key to the front is a scan key and it stopped working for me and ive been waiting for a new key already for 3 months.
It takes a long time for things to get fixed. It gets “fixed” when you call 311 and they pressure the landlord. When I say “fixed” I mean its a job half- assed. When the refrigerator was broken, the super got one that was used and infested with roaches.
The super has harassed me in the past. He tried to kiss me and block my way. Said that he will fix things for me if I gave him a kissed. When I rejected him, then he started to get hostile and gossiped to the neighbors about me. When we’ve made meetings for him to fix something in the apartment, he wouldn’t show up and then show up another day saying that he knocked and no one was there.
The times the water has been cut off, it has been without a notice beforehand.
Many of the neighbors that live here are drug users, and bring gossip. There are a select few that know everyone’s business. A select few, ignore the “no smoking” signs on the walls, smoke in the hallways anyways. People have also spat on the hallway as well.
The current manager of the building harrasses you to pay rent every month as he hands you the rent slip. How? By asking when you’re going to pay it and even gives you a hostile look. There was no consideration even with the Global pandemic happening. The landlord didnt offer flexible payments. They didnt even implement new cleaning sanitations measures.
The building’s windows in the lobby are broken. The stairs have cracks in them. The building needs to be painted. Many of the inbox mails section are broken as well.
Someone mops once a week but the mop is dirty and it smells.
The area, much like many areas in the Bronx, has food scarcity. There are Mcdonalds, domino’s, pizza places, latin food, chinese food, grocery stores, super markets, etc but there are really no places that are “healthy”. There’s lots of fast foods but not a lot of variety especially of healthy choices.
Advice to owner:
I would suggest to hire a super that puts effort into fixing things, give enough budget to buy new fridges /appliances, not old ones with pests inside. Make your property a place where you and your family would be proud to live in. Be more responsible with the building’s maintenance. Have a good plan of action to kill the pests once and for all. Poor and working class people deserve a decent place to live.
