a dangerous building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Way below market rental rates in neighborhood and some units are rent stabilized (though the landlord won’t admit it upfront)
Cons:
Had to move out after 8 months without heat or hot water through winter. A boiler was broken during a chimney repair and the landlord was negligently slow to have it repaired. As of my move out the boiler was still broken and the heat was off. The landlord is that slow and unresponsive to all issues. Fixtures are old and falling apart, paint was lead based, railings on stairwell felt at risk of collapsing. This is the only building I’ve lived in where I didn’t feel safe.
Advice to owner:
Maybe come see your building in person once in awhile to see the poor state it’s in yourself, though I doubt that would move you to do anything about it.
