Great Apt - Loud Street
Former Tenant
Pros:
Landlord is more old school, got a great COVID deal and a low increase at renewal thankfully. Loved my unit, it was super spacious, tall ceilings and tons of storage. Also loved the views into the courtyard and how sunny the apartment was. The hardwood floors were in great condition too. Love the neighborhood too, very clean and for the most part around the corner was quiet. The kitchen had lots of countertop space which was amazing for cooking. Water pressure was always great and strong with never any issues with hot water ever. Never any issues with all utilities tbh.
Cons:
The landlord does not take care of any of the common spaces so the stairs were all tore apartment, entry was dirty and the place always smelled like cigarettes. The noise from the freeway was terrible. Always would hear the freeway all the time no matter what time of day. Also that intersection of Kane and Hicks is so loud with cars stopping and going and horns blaring all the time. Windows were old so no real insulation for heat and noise. Landlord is cheap with the heat, so never really turned it on much. Had to purchase a bunch of space heaters to stay warm in the winter. Roaches were seen in the walk up area every month, squirrels terrorize the attic so you hear all their craziness all year. Lots of bugs in general due to so many open spaces around the apartment that lead to outside. The most annoying part was the front door doesn't have a buzzer so you have to go downstairs every time to let people in.
Advice to owner:
Do some improvements to the building like adding in a buzzer
