Worst landlord I've ever had.
Former Tenant
Pros:
I only saw 1 roach.
Cons:
Immense hostility from landlord whenever anything had to be fixed, was at certain points threatened to be sued. Eventually got too scared to email him about any issues I was having with heat, etc, which I guess was what he wanted. Do not rent from Brian or Jesse Elgart at Francine Realty - I have had wonderful experiences with basically every other landlord I've had (and never was late on rent) so the problem wasn't me.

Cons:

Take your money elsewhere
Former Tenant
Pros:
Friendly neighbors and good location
Cons:
I had terrible experiences with both Brian and Jesse Elgart. They are incredibly disrespectful with little to no regard for the basic rights of their tenants. I was so relieved to finally move out.

Landlords will take your money
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is in a nice neighborhood.
Cons:
Jesse and Brian only want your money. The apartment was not painted when the previous landlord moved out and we notified them of them when moving in. When it came time to move out Jesse emailed us in writhing to tell us we needed to paint the apartment and we did as instructed. Then they took our deposit and ran with it claiming that they had to repaint and the apt was left dirty. They are full of lies and regardless of how much photo proof we had they were not willing to discuss the issue with us. The landlords are disgusting and greedy.
Advice to owner:
Hope you find it in yourself to be decent human beings.

Great finishes, will miss my apt
Former Tenant
Pros:
Apartment was great, everything was updated. Owner put in new video intercom system and security cameras and put in a new laundry room while I was living there. Is a great location. Tons to do. Close to everything.
Cons:
That I had to move because NYC taxes are crazy
Advice to owner:
Thanks for the upgrades throug the years! Miss my apt.

Great appliances can’t make up for a grifter landlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
* New stainless steel appliances, all in perfect working order
* In-unit central AC in every room
* Hot water in showers
* Water pressure is good
* Bathrooms in great condition
* Birds chirping in the morning for units facing the backyard
* New backyard deck for ground unit apartments is a steal
* Proximity to 5th Ave in Park Slope is excellent
Cons:
* Constant construction work being done on neighboring units all year round - No announcements when construction is happening.
* Layers of dust and debris from ongoing construction.
* Mountains of garbage accumulate in they alley, awful smell and flies.
* Packages constantly stolen from the entryway. Bike stolen from the alleyway. Door code never changes.
* Dirty brown water from time to time.
* Dry pipe heat during winter may cause frequent nosebleeds if WFH
* Touts private side entry as a feature but then refused to provide a key to side door of the unit
* Broken lights in the alley never fixed by landlord despite multiple requests, risk of tripping down stairs during the pitch black night.
* Spectrum-only internet.
* No announcements when garbage was moved from the front of the building to the side alley.
* No announcements when they were going to close off the entrance of the building to redo the stoops for multiple weeks, which remains incomplete after 2 months.
* Incidents of worms and flies infestation.
* Pockets of water building up behind the walls before popping.
* Never met the landlord or super when viewing the building - was told to let ourselves in. No super presence.
* Landlord withheld portion of security deposit despite deep cleaning of unit when vacating. When asked for evidence of what was cleaned, landlord sent photos of a different unit with different appliances.
Advice to owner:
Sell the building to someone who will be present and take care of residents. Collecting a rent check is all you can expect from this owner.

Great Apartment
Former Tenant
Pros:
Beautiful renovations, great neighborhood.
Nothing bad to say about the landlord. I would recommend the building and owner. Approval was quick and they have been attentive to anything we have asked.
Cons:
Wish I had storage
Advice to owner:
Please keep my rent low

The slumlords Jesse and Brian Elgart are the worst I’ve ever come across
Former Tenant
Pros:
The location; park slope
Cons:
Renovations were shoddy; apartments were not repainted when old tenants move out; landlords hold tenants accountable for showing open houses and will withhold deposit if tenants are unable to do so; landlord is incredibly disrespectful and has little consideration for tenants’ comfort or convenience; landlord will scheudle renovation and construction work in the apartment directly adjacent to yours despite the fact that you may still be living in the apartment or even worse, during a pandemic; landlords only care about collecting rent and will do the legal bare minimum. Overall, Jesse and Brian Elgart are the worst landlords I’ve ever come across (and that’s saying something since I’ve only ever lived in NYC). Please take your money elsewhere.
Advice to owner:
Respect your tenants as humans as opposed to your revenue stream.
