Loved this apartment, but did not get our deposit back

Pros:
Building was quiet, got a good deal on rent. Management was generally responsive to maintenance issues and neighbors were nice.
Cons:
The heat too so long to come on that my husband bought a thermometer and took photographic proof of how cold it was in the apartment in November before they finally turned the heat on.
We also had a miscommunication about whether we were renewing. We definitely should have communicated our plans more clearly, but management was upset that we didn't tell them early enough and withheld our security deposit, which is illegal. We still have not been able to get the deposit back.
