Beautiful apartment, responsive owners
Former Tenant
Pros:
Landmarked, beautiful space, quiet
Cons:
Lots of construction on the block, 200 new apartments coming online in the past year
Advice to owner:
Keep doing what you're doing

Calm prewar second floor apartment on a green block
Former Tenant
Pros:
The landlord fixes everything, and the built-in appliances are a rare find (even if the washer and dryer are older, the dishwasher is new). It all works well.

The front room light is spectacular. Love the pocket doors, too.
Cons:
Some of the neighbors are unfriendly, and there are a lot of new people from the repurposed school turned into condos. Also, really miss Daughter Café on the next block.
Advice to owner:
Your dog is cute, but he can be noisy.

Nightmare Living Situation
Former Tenant
Pros:
Beautiful building but one of the most harrowing living situations we've ever endured
Cons:
I cannot think of a single redeeming thing about living with Jay and his wife, Jessica. They are controlling, enter one's apartment without any notice, scream and yell, accuse their tenants of heinous things, were willing to scream at our guests. They repeatedly entered our home without consent. They are constantly fighting downstairs and yet, are willing to monitor all comings and goings of their tenants. They have been banned from posting on Listings Project because of how abusive they are to their tenants.
Advice to owner:
Don't rent to people. You are not fit to be tenants.

Landlord does not respect tenants: Stole property + refused to return deposit
Former Tenant
Pros:
The second floor apartment is quite big and has beautiful features like wooden panels and a sliding glass door. Big windows in the living room and decent sized kitchen. Washer dryer a plus also.
Cons:
Jay the landlord and his wife live downstairs. They argue constantly and it can get quite loud. On top of this they are very particular and controlling of the space. They monitor guests and complained that we ‘came and went too much’ from the apartment.

As we were moving out (a couple weeks before our lease was ending), they repeatedly let themselves into our apartment when we were not there and “cleaned up” by throwing a number of our items in trash bags and disassembling my bed and moving it to the public hallway. A pendant that had been attached to my bed went missing. They also stole one of our hanging plants and hung it in their front window and refused to communicate about any of these incidents.

Lastly, Jay refused to return our deposit on the grounds that we had caused 'above normal wear & tear' damage and refused to return keys. This was simply untrue. Overall, very inappropriate and strange behavior from the landlord, would definitely avoid.

Also there is a constant mice problem.
Advice to owner:
Do not enter people’s apartments and touch their belongings without consent, or steal items that do not belong to you.

Keep your voices down when you argue.

Do not steal tenant's security deposits.

One star landlord. Complete creep and slimeball.
