Horrible Landlord - Do Not Rent Here
Former Tenant
Pros:
There are no pros to living here. Do not rent from this lady. She is completely a baby reindeer stalker who will break into your unit while you're gone and who will extort money from you. Her and her brother are nothing but con people.
Cons:
Steals deposits, kicks you out without notice. If you attempt to take her to court she will make your life a living hell. She controls the internet so if you cross her (because of a problem she caused and you address) she will cut the internet for you as "punishment." Her menacing and retaliatory nature is well documented on the Nextdoor website, giving advice to people about how to harass tenants, withhold funds, etc. She lets her cats poop everywhere, including in your bathtub that she hardly cleans up so it'll be up to you. She's been sued by several tenants at her Massachusetts property. STALKS TENANTS ONLINE AFTER SHE ILLEGALLY EVICTS THEM.

DO NOT RENT HERE.

Con Artist Landlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
Absolutely no pros other than this being a beautiful old building that, sadly, the owner, Kate Kelly, is not taking care of.
Cons:
Despite living there for 5 years and paying over $133,000.00, she did not return my security deposit and provided no reason as to why, even though required by law. When requests were sent via PayPal and Venmo, she blocked me.

She gave me "notice" after I politely asked her to remedy the smell of cat feces coming from the hallway. She told me, in writing, that if I couldn't meditate the smell of cat feces for a few days each month while she's gone (she lets her cats poop in her bathtub (pictures!) and because the units aren't legally separated the smell goes into unit two) that I should find somewhere else to live. A week later she gave me formal notice to leave, after 5 years.

The "two" units (technically 4 as she rents out three spaces in Apt 1, which is illegal - only the landlord can live in Unit 1 if it's only a 2 unit property) are technically just one as she never separated the two units. To access unit 2 you have to walk through unit 1.

As of April 2023 this and many other things that OpenIgloo won't let me write about have been referred to the NY Attorney Generals Office, the Brooklyn District Attorney, a private NYPD detective, and I've hired a civil attorney to pursue a civil case against the landlord.
Advice to owner:
Lawyer up. We've dug up some bones.
