Good building as long as you're ready to manage bugs and mice on your own
Former Tenant
Pros:
Very reliable boiler system, have never had any problems with heat, neither too hold nor too cold in winter. Landlord will fix things if you push them to do so (concise messages that suggest an understanding of tenant law work well.) The other tenants are quiet and respectful.
Cons:
The biggest con with this building is the mouse, roach, bedbug issues. I had to trap and kill a mouse when I moved in. After going through every room and putting steel wool in the numerous holes in the floor I haven't seen any mice. I may never really get rid of the roaches, but the gel poison works for a few months if you apply it behind the dishwasher. There was also a bedbug infestation between fall 2022 through spring 2023, which the management never handled comprehensively.

The common areas never really get cleaned. Someone comes by and does a cursory mop, but that's about it.

The 1980s metal windows do not seal well, so you'll hear every siren and conversation on Eastern Parkway.

Beware the bed bugs
Former Tenant
Pros:
There was great lighting and big bedrooms.
Cons:
Neighbor collected trash and the hallway smelled as a result. Landlord said his hands were tied.
There was a bed bug infestation. Paid OUT OF POCKET for an exterminator but they came back because it’s in other apartments.
Advice to owner:
Get the whole building exterminated and have someone come in weekly to handle the hallway smells.

Signed up for a great apartment, got roaches and mice too!
Former Tenant
Pros:
I loved the building location, I mean how close can you be to the subway but not hear/feel the trains, it was wonderful. I liked the apartment layout, the nice original details and it was renovated with modern amenities.
Cons:
The apartment was infested with roaches and mice, need I say more. When I viewed the apartment I asked about monthly pest control maintenance and was told it actually happened. It did not. During my initial cleaning while unpacking, my partner and I unearthed a graveyard of dead mice stuck to glue traps underneath and behind the stove... THE WORST. I kept wondering what that rotten stench was! A week into living there a mouse joined me for dinner one night and roaches started popping up all over the place, imagine opening your kitchen cabinet to them just hanging out on the door! The dishwasher that I was so happy to have, was a breeding ground for them, just disgusting.
Advice to owner:
My advice to the owner is to invest in scheduled monthly pest control/ extermination. The problem can be rectified but it takes him caring first. My advice to the building Super/ Building Manager... instead of informing people of the best roach bait and mouse repellent, warn them that they should not sign a lease to begin with!
