Mice, noisy club, withholding security deposit
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is close to the subway and parking was not as difficult as my previous place. The bedrooms got good sunlight which was nice, especially during stay at home orders.
Cons:
Building management is unresponsive, dishonest, and disrespectful.

For starters, I moved out of this building last year and have yet to receive my security deposit. I missed no payments and even got cleared for no damage during a walkthrough. They have now resorted to hanging up the phone as a response to requests for my deposit...during a global pandemic. Do NOT rent in this place unless you’d like a trip to small claims court for your money.

We had several heating issues throughout the winter. Management controls the heat and refused to keep heat above legal limits until we threatened to file a formal complaint.

We also had an issue where we got trapped inside the building (the front would stick and would not let us out). It got to the point where someone would have to key in or a neighbor would have to buzz you out to leave our own building. This was an unacceptable fire hazard that took far too long to resolve.

The building had mice and bugs, which is a common reality of living in NYC but management was unresponsive about extermination requests.

Lastly, the building is near Atlantic Ave so I expected noise but the level of noise that comes from the party hall next door is not manageable and can go until 6am some mornings. Earplugs couldn’t even help at that point.
Advice to owner:
Please do better. You can start by being honest, humane people. Give people their security deposits back, really. Especially during a global pandemic. Also think about having to live with the conditions that you create for tenants.
