So much MOLD
Former Tenant
Pros:
nice location, roof access, dish washer, laundry
Cons:
Mold, Leaks, Water Damage, Unresponsive Management, Small rooms, only one washer dryer for the whole building
Our apartment has had several leaks, one in the bedroom, one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. The bedroom one being the worst with water dumping into the room during a bad rain storm leaving an inch of standing water. It took several months of complaints for the roof to finally be fixed and while it has been better since, when you go on the roof after a rain storm you can feel pockets of water underneath, Seems its only a matter of time until the leaks start again. There was considerable damage after the leaks, mainly extremely warped floor boards and soooo much mold. The back of my dresser was covered in mold, shoes covered in mold, the suitcase under my bed covered in mold, the whole place just constantly smells like mold. I’ve never seen mold grow on my belongings like this in any other nyc apartment and all of us getting dehumidifiers for our rooms have barely helped. Also think the Central AC units may be part of the culprit as I’m pretty sure the filters and units have never been cleaned properly. The management is also extremely slow at responding and fixing things. The most concerning being when the front door of the building was broken, leading to an intruder in one of the apartments and it still took several days to even get a response and get the door fixed. I seriously worry about the structure of this building. One of the leaks in the bathroom lead to growth of black mold on the ceiling, they said its an issue with the whole structure of the building and the apartment would need to be vacant for it to be fixed. Nine months after our initial request to have repaired they merely plastered over the mold so it looks okay and they can rent it out immediately instead of actually fixing the issue. These are just the issues with my apartment but several others in the building during our time here have their own horror stories with damages and unresponsive management. If you move here beware, get a dehumidifier and be on top of emailing constantly to get things fixed!!!
Advice to owner:
get the place tested for mold

Mold problem

Tons of mold and water damage. Management was very slow responding to leaks and other plumbing issues. Some issues are still unresolved.

Moldy and Leaky
Former Tenant
Pros:
Good location, easy commute to work, near great food
Cons:
Alerted management to the black mold issue in the basement multiple times. Rather than repair it, they just painted over the mold.
I was on a top floor unit and constantly dealing with leaking & water damage that eventually led to a large hole in the living room ceiling. There were also leaks in closets and bathrooms. Management was alerted of the progress of the leaking in the living room but did not do anything to address until there was a large ceiling bubble. At that point, the repair guy came over and cut a hole into the ceiling (without laying down any plastic/protection for our things) and left it like that for nearly two months.
When I moved out, I warned everyone that viewed the apartment that of issues, both verbally & with post-it notes pointing out damage. And yet people rented it while there was a hole in ceiling. I think of those tenets every time it rains because I know it must be causing a waterfall in the living room.

We should have listened to the warnings from the last tenant
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location is nice, across from a school and a park with basketball, wall ball, and a playground that are all well maintained.
Cons:
Leaking ceilings and ac units, maintenance does not fix issues, tenants constantly breaking their leases because the property isn’t maintained, ongoing mold issue in multiple units, roaches, packages are stolen frequently.
When we first viewed the apartment there were sticky notes from the last tenants hidden in the cabinets and closets with warnings about packages being stolen, poor management, roaches and mold. We should have listened. After we moved in our neighbors came by and told us our unit had severe water damage that was never dealt with and that’s why the people in our unit ultimately broke their lease and moved out. When we asked maintenance about this they assured us it wouldn’t be an issue and was totally fixed. It only took a few months for it to be an issue, and it’s still not been addressed.
Advice to owner:
Sell your property to someone who can maintain it
