Nightmare landlord puts tenants in danger
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice location and wonderful neighborhood
Cons:
Building is literally crumbling and service workers refuse to do repairs bc the building is so dangerously out of code. I had a severe mold illness problem due to water constantly flooding and leaking through the walls. There's a makeshift balcony situation that has an AC unit pooling water on top of the unit's ceiling. Landlord made me go without AC replacement during the entire summer. He stalled on replacing the broken washer/dryer for 7 months until I threatened to withhold rent. Then he did an extremely scary DIY installation with the gas dryer (breaking off the valve). He stole my security deposit and overcharged for literally everything. He is happy to put all tenants in danger. Do not rent here
Advice to owner:
Sell the unit to someone willing to take care of tenants

This plce makes you traumatized
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice location Only 8 apartments in a building
Cons:
The building leaks whenever it’s raining and lanlord won’t fix it. He tells you to put some treys under it until leakage stops. Then he will send maintenance guy to put the treys “in the ceiling”, then close it and painting over it. He doesn’t want to pay contractors to come and fix it properly.
All PTAC units will leak when it’s raining and the solution is treys under each unit. So you will have bunch of treys all over you apartment to cover the leakages.
Water pressure is awful and will take 10-12 min to get the hot water running
Room temperature is 85-90 degree at summer time and 69-70 in winter time cause Heat/Ac units don’t work properly and lanlord won’t change the devices
It happened couple of times that I didn’t have hot water for over 3 days but lanlord didn’t answer his phone/txt cause it was weekend or holiday. Then he lectured me about the US holidays that people won’t work!!!!
Last one- this place it’s not rent stabilized ( I don’t know how it’s possible) so he raised the rent by 40%
Advice to owner:
Be more responsible to fix the issues.

Worst Landlord In Brooklyn
Former Tenant
Pros:
Space was nice—until you realized it was a veneer of shotty craftsmanship and a constantly falling apart unit.
Cons:
Everything breaks, but landlord won’t fix. It was 98° in my bedroom all summer—I had to sleep on a pull-out couch in my living for 4 months. He will lie and push out dates of fixes, skip phone calls, and put band-aids on gaping leaks. It’s sincerely an unlivable apartment, and he will screw over every tenant. The landlord seems like a nice guy, but he’s incompetent, a liar, and a thief. My neighbors and I found community in hating him.
Advice to owner:
Quit every job you’ve ever had. I hope someone takes legal action against you, if I don’t.

Leaks, mold, and a broken home
Former Tenant
Pros:
At first this apartment looked amazing, washer and dryer in unit, dishwasher, 2 beds, etc. this feeling soon went away after moving in.
Cons:
The owner is reluctant to fix anything. When I did my move in inspection, there was a laundry list of things that did not work. The freezer was leaking and not keeping the food cold, doors hanging off the hinges, broken window, and the list goes on endlessly
Malik then proceeded to send me phone numbers of contractors that were unreliable, half the time they would keep you waiting there and never show up. I even had one of his go to contractors come over pissed off (mind you a day late and then 12 hours late the next day) start slamming the door he was fixing while screaming.
The worst part was at the hieght of COVID he has at least 15 contractors come through my house some who refused to wear MASKS!
Eventually there was a huge leak, and I come to find out the from the neighbors that the building leaks every time there’s rain.
He didn’t fix it or dry out the ceiling, they scraped the MOLD and paint off the ceiling then painted over it.
At this point I decided to get a lawyer to break the lease and move out. I the. Come to find out from the broker that he has been trying to hide all the of the issues in the apartment, including the broken window, actively. The first thing he said on my walk through was “you didn’t see it when you looked at the apartment?”
OBVIOUSLY I DIDNT SINCE YOU WERE TRYING TO HIDE IT!
Advice to owner:
Actually hire reliable people to fix things and stop being the cheap slum lord you are. You have BLACK MOLD in your building
