Speak to the previous tenants before renting
Former Tenant
Pros:
This apartment was probably the most gorgeous I'll live in, specifically the full wall of windows, high ceilings, and large living space. The building lets you make the space your own, both our neighbors completely rebuilt their kitchens and more. The location is great and also has roof access which was another highlight. The other people in the building were also very friendly.
Cons:
We had really bad cockroaches in the bathroom, kitchen, and even in my bed so I could not continue living there. I watched one drop its egg case on our floor in broad daylight after I saw it crawling up the wall and screamed. The exterminator came monthly but it did not help. There was water damage to our unit from a fire on the roof which they had to put out prior to us moving in. Possibly why there was a roach problem due to the water damage, since we made sure to seal the cracks and not leave food out. There was another fire on the roof after we moved out. I don't think all units in this building have cockroach problems but ours was directly under the fire.
Advice to owner:
Inspect and correct the root cause of the cockroach infestation

Expensive starter situation that works if you have like 4 roommates and patience
Former Tenant
Pros:
In-building laundry, large roof top space, very convenient location and latitude for customizing each unit.
Cons:
REALLY expensive without roommates. Very unresponsive super, usually takes an email to the owner to make fixes after he makes you coordinate with him. Literally pissy stairs, mixed use status means you could be down the hall from an indoor concert on a weeknight. Lots of people wandering into the building via the parking garage, which usually equals stolen packages. Landlord would mark my payments as late when I know I paid on time. Black mold issues in bathroom and warped floorboards unattended to because of aforementioned super issues. VERY rude brokers from the building management when I was moving out. Next to no notice for apartment tours.

Loft living is a double edged sword but mostly good
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great group of people, chic area (near Roberta’s), lots of fun, AMAZING ROOF! Great place to hang during the summer, met some incredible people
Cons:
Definitely a bit of socioeconomic alienation and tension — a ton of bougie wealth right next to the projects means that things can get a little weird. Expensive but you have those incredible high ceilings with amazing views. Absolutely stunning. I will always love this area. You can’t beat how vibrant it is.
Advice to owner:
Maybe set up some more heavy duty doors and monitoring near entrance bc packages get stolen a lot, the front door would get broken into etc.

Loft in bushwick east Williamsburg.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Loft life and space. There’s a garage. It’s not the worst place. Syndicated and robertas are on the same block. Heavenly market is expensive but lots of variety. Bravo grocery is west on Moore st. Morgan subway is a block away. There are parks nearby. Everything is quite close. 15-20 min commute to union sq taking the Morgan L. Not bad.
Cons:
When you throw out the trash you have to throw it from 5 feet away from the dumpsters bc there are over 100 rats that will emerge and scatter everywhere. Bathroom was super cold in the winter get a space heater. Cockroach infestation. The dryer is broken have to make sure the flame is on in the back. Loud if you live over the garage door. One neighbor with a shaggy small dog is rude and weird to people with big dogs. It’s not bad for ny though. There is a wonton factory on white and Moore that makes the air smell like oil and fried food I don’t mind it but other people did. I
Advice to owner:
Good luck to you

Nice Location, Okay Amenities, Lousy Owners and Community
Former Tenant
Pros:
Very convenient location, roof access, near L train
Cons:
Stolen packages, slow super and unresponsive management, was given late fees for on-time rent payments, party goers throwing up in elevator and peeing in the stairwell.
