Typical rent stabilized slumlords
Pros
Great location, nice large units
Cons
Management are awful to deal with, building very poorly maintained, the supers are under a huge amount of pressure and unable to keep up with their duties
Advice to the owners
A bit of maintenance, please!
It's an old building
Pros
Decent rent price, friendly neighbors, hands-off management (good and bad), basic necessities are there, large rooms in the apartment, good location.
Cons
Run down, nothing is fixed until it HAS to be, super and porter are 80 years old (sad - they are lovely and sweet but they deserve better), garbage is usually left in the lobby hallway, there is a guy that smokes in the lobby often and management won't do anything about it, cosmetically run down, old fixtures and years of ignoring problems and fixing things shoddily. Elevator smells horrible most of the time, there IS pest control but I think they only came once during the 3 years we were there. I had multiple packages stolen from the lobby and management is unresponsive about most things. Security cameras don't work. The manager - Ned - is very elusive and won't ever say his own name to try and remain anonymous; same for the other manager, Anita. Rent went up about $80 per month per year while we were there. It's a fine apartment building for bare bones pre-war Brooklyn.
Advice to the owners
Listen to tenants when they say something needs to be fixed
