Avoid these landlords!
Former Tenant
Pros:
Sunny, spacious apartment and lovely neighbors.
Cons:
The landlords are some of the worst I've ever had to deal with. We lived in apartment #2, were generally good tenants, paid rent on time, never hosted any parties, and kept the place clean and tidy. In our second year in the apartment, we had a very serious pest problem. We contacted Frank and Jack Silva (the landlords) to send us an exterminator. They sent us the most incompetent exterminator I've ever seen, who came to our apartment several times over months and never fixed the problem. Our neighbors similarly had a pest problem, so it was definitely an issue with the building itself. We were living with mice (several of them) for months on end, and were seeing mouse droppings all over the apartment. Eventually, we got fed up with the landlords and paid for a service to exterminate the pests ourselves. It worked immediately, but was an expense we had to incur. Eventually though, instead of taking this into account, the landlords deducted about $1,000 from our security deposit for fixing minor, cosmetic things in the apartment, such as holes in the ceiling from hanging stuff up. It certainly does not cost $1,000 to fix these things, and landlords cannot pass over such costs to tenants. The landlords also raised the rent on us by $500 a month over night. I would seriously avoid dealing with them. Spare yourselves.
Advice to owner:
I hope you think twice before you decide to rob another tenant again.
