Typical NY apartment
Pros
It was a true rent-stabilized unit. Can't beat the location. Around the corner from the train and 5 minutes to the park. I loved living there despite the cons.
Cons
Management could be sketchy when it comes to building upkeep. They replaced the roof (which was great because the leaks were out of control) but then upped everyone's rent to pay for it. When I got bedbugs, they refused to tell the other tenants to check their apartments, which could worsen the infestation. I had issues with mice until I sealed up the floorboards with caulk. The super was openly racist, one time confiding in me that all Mexicans are disgusting without realizing that I myself am Mexican (lol). The walls are thin and the neighbors are loud and rude. My downstairs neighbor would beat the ceiling whenever my cat got the zoomies, and upstairs neighbor blasted music at all hours and threw disgusting things out their window and onto my fire escape (e.g., period-soaked underpants). When I told management, they did nothing. And yet I loved the apartment enough to tolerate those dirtbags for almost ten years.
Advice to the owners
Fix the pest problem or at least be forthcoming about it. Get DEI training for the super. Tell tenants not to throw biomedical waste onto other people's fire escapes.
