Overall a good experience, with some negative highlights
Former Tenant
Pros:
It was a small building—only 6 units, I believe, and there was rooftop access, which was nice. The laundry in the building, as well as extra storage space in the basement was also a plus
Cons:
There was something weird going on with the keys/apt door locks. Apparently we each had the same exact key/lock, which meant we could open each other’s apartments. That felt like a potentially dangerous situation. The landlords contrived a bs reason to refused to return my deposit to me, even though I left the apt in good shape

NEGLECTED BUILDING—NEGLECTFUL LANDLORD
Former Tenant
Pros:
Central air/central heat
Cons:
No response from landlord re: leaking ceiling. Water bugs everywhere because of lazy plumbing. Dealt with a squatting screaming tenant on the second floor (now evicted). Filthy basement with mold: there is a HOLE IN THE FOUNDATION OF THIS BUILDING THAT IS A STORM DRAIN TO OUTSIDE. Despicable
Advice to owner:
Don’t become a landlord if you can’t handle the responsibility. Flipping pre-war buildings with the cheapest possible materials to make a quick buck is disgusting. Answer your god damned phone. TAKE CARE OF YOUR BUILDING.

Not perfect but not too bad
Former Tenant
Pros:
Laundry in building is always operational.
Lots of outlets in every room, central air.
The exposed brick and paint colors are nice and there’s a dishwasher and new appliances in the kitchen.
The windows are large, with space to sit.
There are minor cleanliness issues but honestly for the price, it’s very nice.
Online rent payment is convenient but there’s a small fee.
The “virtual doorman” is also really convenient.
Cons:
Noise travels a LOT in this building. We hear our neighbors playing music and moving furniture easily and sometimes we even hear conversations. In the apartment, bedrooms are so close you can pretty much everything.
The ventilation is not the best, so we often smell cooking from our neighbors and the restaurant downstairs. The bathroom has no window, so it can get a little musty.
The kitchen is tiny, with almost no storage. There’s a small common area with no windows so it’s pretty dark.
The trash area is almost always overflowing so it’s basically an open trash pit out front.
The owner is sometimes very slow to respond to maintenance requests and requires multiple calls to address an issue. There hasn’t been pest control for several months.
When we moved in the apartment wasn’t totally cleaned, so we did have to do some light cleanup.
Advice to owner:
Install laundry machines that use an app for payment instead of quarters.
Also, there needs to be more trash space so it’s not constantly overflowing.
Please respond to maintenance requests.
Also better communication about the basement space would be nice.
