Cheap but Dirty
Former Tenant
Pros:
The apartments are spacious. Definitely not modern or newly renovated in the least, but livable and can be made to look nice.
Cons:
It’s so dirty in the lobby. Flies just buzzing all over the place. Only one measly, and full, fly sticky trap hanging in the back stairs where people go out to leave their trash. People will let their dogs piss in the lobby stairs and it’s left for days. Packages have been stolen. The super doesn’t know what his responsibilities are. There’s roaches all over the building too. I see them in my kitchen every night and I’ve been trying to get help for the last 2 weeks. Monthly exterminations are ineffective and is just a guy that sprays a few corners of the apartment. The office is quick to respond (once you’re passed around to several different contacts) but mostly with rebuttals not actual solutions. It’s a rent stabilized building, but they’re trying to increase the rent based on some “improvements” they’ve made to the building that I haven’t seen. The floors are also super slanted, to the point that I’m scared the floor will collapse one night. It’s definitely a foundational issue that I don’t want to stick around to to find out.
Advice to owner:
Take pest control more seriously. The building is infested and no one seems to care. It doesn’t help that the lobby is often so messy and filled will flies.
