Charming Unit, Complicated History
Former Tenant
Pros:
This apartment is located on the second story of a house on a quiet, residential street. It has charming antique character, tin ceilings, and good natural light.
Cons:
I lived in this apartment for six years. The live-in landlord charged me and the person with whom I was living at the time first, last, and security when we moved into the unit, which is unusual when it comes to renting from live-in landlords. There was one incident of bedbugs while I lived in the building, not in my unit but rather downstairs (these bedbugs did not travel upstairs but the person with whom I lived and I had to take all requisite bedbug precautions). It's also important to note that this is an apartment in a private house, and my time in this apartment ended when my landlord said she was "moving upstairs" (i.e., into my apartment) and that the person with whom I lived and I had to be out by April 1. This was after six years of living in the building, and took us by surprise. A few weeks later, we found the apartment slightly refurbished on a broker's website, with its rent increased by $700.
