Built new building next door and cut off all my light
Former Tenant
Pros:
The apartments in this bldg are really nice. The super is super—does repairs, keeps the bldg clean. Elevator always works. Fairly quiet. My heat works too well, while some neighbors complain that they are cold. There are cockroaches, tho they do exterminate now and then.
Cons:
About 4 years ago, even tho the owners own many many buildings on Ocean Parkway, they built a new building right up virtually against this building. For several years I had to endure super loud construction noise, and forevermore I have no natural light whatsoever, because all my windows are on that side. So my apartment is dark as a tomb. I asked the landlord/owners if they could reduce my rent, since it’s against the law for NY apts not to have natural light, or whether they could let me rent a different apt for the same rent. Their response was “Not gonna happen.” Also, they never respond to emails or phone calls.
Advice to owner:
Respond to tenant communications respectfully, and lower the rent of all the apartments on the side affected by the new building.

What a lovely place to live, but be nice to your neighbors
Former Tenant
Pros:
Clean, Safe, Convenient
Cons:
Super is sometimes hard to get hold of
The elevator seems to have issues from time-to-time
Some of the newer tenants are VERY entitled
Advice to owner:
You need to consider going condo or co-op. There's a lot of long-time residents who would make you very happy with wanting to buy the places they live in.
