Useless 20 something Landlord
Pros
The other tenants are very nice, and having a sense of comraderie was refreshing. The absent and lazy landlord also can work to your advantage if you want to do interesting things in your space- save that you return them the way you found them.
Cons
He is a marco-polo landlord (AKA never involved, can't be found) who was given a building to manage by his parents who are also landlords. That is generally how to building feels as well. Like someone thoughtful set it up and now this guy just let's it create money. The maintenance person he gave us a number for barely remembered who the landlord was, and wanted to work out an arrangement where we pay him. Every problem we had we found our own maintence person for and sent him an invoice. I guess that's management in some ways, but in others- like the AC split system having huge gaps where cockroaches would filter in were not as easily solveable. The lack of oversight into the building- letting unmasked workers run amok during peak covid spread, capriciously raising rent hundreds for some but not for others, forgetting to file building documents so that NYCB taped notices on the front door. the guy is not going to be around and is not going to care. You need to decide if that works for you as a tenant.
Advice to the owners
Stop managing properties, you aren't good at it.
