Overpriced Roach Motel

Pros

5 blocks to F train, 10 to Q/B line + buses. Dog friendly building. Working elevator, most days. Decent laundry room on site. Superintendent Team: hardworking + friendly. Updated apartment spaces. Although littered & often gross, Ocean Parkway Malls across the street are good for lounging, walking, biking. Walking distance to restaurants on Cortelyou.

Cons

Beware! Deregulated apartments; Pricey!! Mgmnt could be more responsive to inquiries/assistance; nothing done about noise pollution from inconsiderate tenants. The garbage area is a hassle to get to. Our kitchen specifically: poorly constructed with ZERO sealing of cracks/spaces between cabinets/walls. Exterminator was useless, lots of DIY work to rid our place of pests but nothing stopped the roaches and mice from breaching barriers & toxins. The roach infestation by the lobby mailboxes is insane; I refused to check my mail for months! Not much was done about the infestations. Our rent increased $500 after a 2-year lease so we moved, refusing to pay that increase to stay in a tiny makeshift 2 bedroom roach motel.

what specific challenges did you encounter with accessing the garbage area?

There is a garbage shoot on each floor, fit for smaller loads, recycling not included. Access the outdoor garbage area by carrying your bags through some doors and down some stairs that lead to the garage, walk through garage to outdoor garbage area. OR walk out the building, use your key fob to enter a side door that leads you through a tunnel, which eventually takes you to the outdoor garbage area. Hassle.
