Nightmare on 53rd st
Former Tenant
Pros:
The pros are simple. You have a roof over your head and the neighborhood is “safe” depending on your skin color.
Cons:
I’d like to start off by saying, I’m black. Everything was fine upon first moving in. Unfortunately though, my apartment was right above the “super”, which gave him access to do some pretty disturbing things to harass me once he decided that he didn’t like me as a tenet. It started with him being.. normal, eventually he showed his true colors. He even told my girlfriend that he was my uncle at one point. He would send me text messages threatening to come to my apartment because I was using my dishwasher at 5pm or something. I saved each text he sent threatening me for using my dishwasher(which eventually became an every-other-day occurrence until I decided to block him) and I sent them to the landlord. He told me they’d been friends for 15 years and “that doesn’t sound like him” even though… I’d.. shown… him.. the.. literal….. screenshots. Of. Him. Threatening….. me. He also began knocking on my bedroom window asking for alcohol, blasting music for 24 hours on most nights on full volume (no exaggeration) neighbors would call the police on him to make noise complaints as well but would always hide behind their doors after doing so. He eventually started standing outside of my bedroom window at night, screaming threats at me and even inviting his “buddies” to come over, drink with him, and join in on the harassment by having them stand outside of my window with him, so they could all scream strange threats at me. At one point, he even threatened to have his friend sodomize me with an object I had in my apartment (I still don’t know how he knew I owned that specific object) Mind you, I’d done nothing to him. He’d leave food by my window for rodents, loudly scream threats through the ceiling, have loud conversations about his disdain for me just so I could hear it, he even stood outside of my window on my birthday and proudly called me a “n*gger” and would call my mother to tell her his assumptions about what was going on in my personal life. I’ve even seen him at multiple times tampering with/tearing up my mail. lol. Eventually, he started parading around in a MAGA hat as a lazy attempt to make uncomfortable. Very strange building if you’re living in apartment A2/the apartment ABOVE the super “birch angel Cruz”. The landlord lets him get away with heinous things because they’re friends. Consider your mental health before moving to that building.
Advice to owner:
Be a better person. What goes around, comes around.
