Shady Landlord, fake luxury
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great neighbors, some new appliances, outdoor space
Cons:
The landlord is a creepy money hungry liar. Listing was dishonest, claims all utilities are included in rent but then sneaks in a surcharge for AC usage. Landlord made multiple weird, unprompted jokes about listening devices and cameras hidden in apartment. Who does that? Landlord never hires repairmen for issues, insists on fixing himself which meant that nothing actually ever got fixed properly. Refused to give heat last winter- had to run stove to avoid freezing. Refused to hire exterminator for roach and mouse issue, we had to take care of it ourselves. Raised our rent in the middle of the pandemic. Started showing the apartment to others 2 months before lease expiration. Had prospective tenants show up unannounced and unsupervised, asked us to show the apartment for him. Had a total of 40 strangers come see the place despite pandemic then tried to keep security deposit because he claimed the apartment was dirty even though we took 2 days to clean it and it was dirty when we moved in. Only gave us back deposit after threatening with litigation. He pretends to be nice but ultimately is a fake, greedy, dishonest slum lord-lite. For the prices he asks, you are better off moving to an actually good neighborhood.
Advice to owner:
Hire real repairmen and don't be so intrusive and dishonest to your tenants
