Pros:
Convenient location, high ceilings, big windows, lots of natural light, trash was maintained, didn’t have to pay for heat (see cons).
Cons:
I rented one of their unit for a year and the entire building was in crumble. Everything was dirty, old, broken, leaks everywhere from everything, no heat in winter, no doorbells, no intercoms, no security cameras, 40 year old fridge, not renovated as landlord claimed, super dirty, baby roaches in kitchen every night, appliances were plugged into extension cords across the kitchen, wrecked closets, impossible to use more than 1 AC before the power went out, pull string lights (like a basement), moldy old cabinets, etc. Promised fixes were never done and the rest were ignored when I requested repairs. I reported the landlord for not fixing anything and he received numerous violations by the city. I still paid my rent on time every month, yet he threatened to kick me out blaming me for calling 311 and then wanted to fight my boyfriend. Landlord’s family also claimed we did drugs which was a complete lie. Neighbors above me played music almost every weekday to 3am, stomping and dancing yet landlord blamed me for noise problems. The landlord’s relative then went through my rental paper work, called my mom (who was my emergency contact) just to complain about me! As a 28 year old at the time, I was completely humiliated by these people. They also lied about the square footage. Very unprofessional, rude and nasty landlord and management.
Advice to owner:
Repair the building, it’s completely a dump. Renovate parts of the place. A 40 year old fridge and protruding outlets from the 1970s isn’t “brand new”. Add doorbells and intercoms. Fix things on time and don’t make excuses. Behave professionally to your tenants. Banging their doors and screaming doesn’t make things better.
